Following a memorable and somewhat chance encounter with the Irish President outside Dublin’s Kilmainham Gaol in 1966 (see “Conquering the Continent”), the Band received a great honour several years later.
On the occasion of its 21st anniversary, the Band was presented with a letter of congratulations personally signed by Éamon de Valera. This message of recognition from one of Ireland’s most prominent political figures was a significant moment in the Band’s history.
The letter holds a place of pride among the many trophies, awards, and distinctions earned throughout the Band’s long and distinguished journey. It stands as a lasting symbol of encouragement and acknowledgement from the highest level, reflecting the cultural and historical connections the Band helped to foster over the years.
